A wise Chinese sage once said,
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
Wise words? But what do they mean to someone who is trying to achieve their goals in life? That’s what we’ll be talking about in this article.
I am sure that you have some big goals in your life. Perhaps you want a mansion in the countryside, a sports car, or your own boat.
I am also sure that you may well be looking at this goal and thinking “How the hell am I going to get that?”
And this is where our wise philosopher comes into play.
Pick one of your major goals that you don’t know how to achieve and examine it more closely. Think about the goal and you will realise that it is made up of a number of smaller goals, each of which is in turn made up of other smaller goals.
Grab a piece of paper, write down a major goal at the top, and below it, write down the steps you can take to achieve this goal. In effect, each of these steps represents a mini-goal, and each of these mini-goals can be broken down further if necessary into more manageable chunks.
Do not become obsessed with achieving each minor step on your way to the major goal. You may find that some steps can be skipped, some become unnecessary, and that new steps appear. Review these minor steps regularly as they will change often.
Now you’ve just done this quick exercise, and you should never leave the scene of a decision without taking some action, so go do something to get yourself on the path to your goal!
An example may be that you want to buy a farm in the country. You know nothing about farms. You may break your goal down into something like:
1) Find out about farming – is it for me and what does it involve?
2) What sort of farms are there and which type do I want?
3) What is the best area for the type of farm that I want?
4) How much money do I need to buy the farm
…
…
…
Buy the farm
This is a very simple illustration of breaking down your goals. Each one of these may be broken down further into actions you can take.
Now you realise, that the journey towards a goal starts with a single step, and is made up of many steps.

I receive many emails from people that basically ask the same question: How can I keep myself motivated long term? This seems to be quite a common dilemma for many people so I want to address it because it can be done! Here are my tips for staying motivated:
Get motivated every day.
Zig Ziglar was once confronted about being a “motivational speaker.” The guy said to him, “You guys come and get people hyped up and then you leave and the motivation goes away. It doesn’t last, and then you have to get motivated again.” Zig reminded the gentleman that baths are the same way but we think it is a good idea to take a bath every day!
It is true that motivation doesn’t last. We have to renew it each and every day. That is okay. It doesn’t make motivation a bad thing. We simply have to realize that if we want to stay motivated over the long term, it is something we will have to apply to ourselves each and every day.
Have a vision for your life.
The root word of motivation is “motive.” The definition of motive is, “A reason to act.” This is the cognitive or rational side of motivation. It is your vision. You have to have a vision that is big enough to motivate you. If you are making $50,000 a year, it isn’t going to motivate you to set your goal at $52,000 a year. You just won’t get motivated for that because the reward isn’t enough. Maybe $70,000 a year would work for you. Set out a vision and a strategy for getting there. Have a plan and work the plan.
Fuel your passion.
Much of motivation is emotional. I don’t know quite how it works but I do know THAT it works. Emotion is a powerful force in getting us going. Passion is an emotion, so fuel your passion. “Well, I like to work on logic,” you may say. Great, now work on your passion. Set yourself on a course to have a consuming desire for your goal, whatever it is. Do whatever you can to feel the emotion and use it to your advantage!
Work hard enough to get results.
You can build on your motivation by getting results. The harder you work, the more results you will get and the more results you get, the more you will be motivated to get more. These things all build on one another. If you want to lose weight, then lose the first few pounds. When the belt moves to the next notch you will get fired up to get it to the notch beyond that!
Put good materials into your mind.
I can’t say this enough – listen to tapes. I still listen to tapes regularly. I buy tape clubs from other speakers and I learn and grow. Their successes motivate me to get my own successes! Read good books. Read books that teach you new ideas and skills. Read books that tell the stories of successful people. Buy them, read them, and get motivated! Buy great music and listen to it. I just did a spinning class at the club today. Whenever a good song came on I was actually able to get motivated to ride faster! It gets you going and motivates you!
Ride the momentum when it comes.
Sometimes you will just be clicking and sometimes you won’t. That is okay. It is the cycle of life. When you aren’t clicking, plug away. When you are clicking, pour it on because momentum will help you get larger gains in a shorter period of time with less energy. That is the Momentum Equation! When you are feeling good about how your work is going, ride the momentum and get as much out of it as you can!

Motivation is the driving force behind the change of life-improvement. She comes to know exactly what you want and having an insatiable desire and burning to what needed to get it. It keeps your dream on the road because the strength of the motivation that keeps you going when gets hard.
Here are 5 tips above to help you supercharge your motivation:
1. Create a picture board and fill it with pictures of your desired goals.
The car you want to have the house you want to live in, the area where you want to live so they are obvious. Others could be pictures of holiday destinations, trophies, first class tickets for travel, clothes you want to buy, fine restaurants you want to attend – the one that you can think of that gets your pulse packaging.
2. GET ANGRY.
If you want to change your life for the better and then get angry about where you are now. Have a blasé attitude towards change is not what is needed and it will not create a strong desire among you. And ask: ‘Why I want to change? “Is it because you are fed up with debt? Your work IT LEADS YOU CRAZY? Your life is it MATE AND ABOVE?
Are you Sick and tired of doing the same thing week in week out? YOU get bored BEYOND THE CREED mates with people, inspiring little, unfortunate that you associate with?
THEN GET ANGRY about it. And I mean really angry. Write to the swallow that, all the frustration, unsuccessful and unhappy fate to which a mat daily slog up your final days. WHAT IS IT WHAT YOU WANT?
3. Talking about your final days, start to appreciate the value of time.
Time is one of the most precious resources you have and it is NOT a renewable resource. You can use it fully or wasted. If you want to create the change you will have to invest much time to make it occur. Begin to reduce the time you lose on the lack of timing: Television, newspapers, find-Central Institute of Statistics, by purchasing spent weekends, partying, dining out, visiting an endless line of parents and friends – to get them help you do what you want and fly all the time to you.
Valuable time that you can use much more effectively by investing in YOU. Remember this: You have a finite number of hours here on earth. You do not know how much time you have – no one does. But it is how you use the time you have that account. Make your time count and this means from at this time.
4. Compliance.
Are you dizzy a little sheep who is too shy to pursue your own way? Do you follow where each one is different, doing exactly what each is doing differently and, therefore, who gets the same levels of happiness that all the other little sheep? Is that seriously, this describes you? Are you too scared to be different than all the other sheep because they do not want if you decide to follow a different path? So you trot along with dedication to follow all the other sheep because if they do then that is how it is true?
But if you do what everyone does otherwise you will get just what gets each other. Would you like to be a sheep little dizzy and weak after all the other blind sheep? Or do you want to be a leader, a warrior who has the courage to just be yourself and do what you want to do and make your dreams happen? If so then this means you must be a tiger rather than sheep.
Do you really want to be a sheep? I want to tell us, do we have enough sheep already?
5. Fear your fear.
The fear is the force that is determined to stop you in your tracks and steal your dreams from you. But it can only do this if you leave. Will you leave this cruel destructive charlatan trampling on your dreams, steal your happiness and crush your mind?
Imagine this thought haunt your final days: “I did not do the things I wanted because I was too scared to live.” And by then, it will be far too late to conquer fear. Refuse to let the fear of corrupting your life and begin to act – now!
The world awaits your unique gifts. Why keep it to wait longer?

I’m often asked to come in to organizations and give a motivational speech to their employees. I reply that I’m not a motivational speaker. Never have been. Never will be. Don’t want to be. I do something else. I teach their people how to become motivational leaders. That’s a far more productive endeavor. (more…)

“If you can imagine it,
You can achieve it.
If you can dream it,
You can become it.”
-William Arthur Ward
William Arthur Ward’s quotation had better be a mighty call to action. Dreams have fantastic ability. They support us by desperate times and drive us through difficult ones and give us hope for the future. More significant they inspire us!
Where would humankind be without dreams? Would we have explored distant places or invented the means to visit those destinations? How many children are alive today thanks to the dreams of doctors and scientists? What works of art lift the hearts of numberless masses due to the dreams of artists?
Finally much is possible thanks to the power of dreams and yet so many people seem unwilling to free their own dreams. They shrug them off, ignore them, or reject them entirely-too difficult, impossible, ridiculous, meaningless.
But even the most frivolous dreams have meaning. If one-man life is touched by that dream-whether they’re inspired, changed, or simply lightened-then that dream has power and meaning.
It is sad that in our society to be called a “dreamer” is actually an insult. In many societies, to be a dreamer was at one time a high calling. If we think of all that dreams have caused-from space travel to the creation of the U.S.A. to a polio vaccine-perhaps we can make dreaming acceptable once again.
What do you do with your possess dreams? Do you dare to sound them, dare to do something about them? Or do you instead drop your time finding apologizes for how come your dreams are impossible?
No dream is unacceptable! You have to believe that and you have to dare to dream, or your dream will be impossible, but there’s no one to blame but yourself because you never let it become possible. Perhaps that is why so many perceive being a “dreamer” as something negative, because they view it as a passive exercise, but being a true “dreamer” is anything but passive-it requires action!
Yes, it’s scary to dream, it’s scary to take a leap of faith, to risk yourself. Even more frightening than failure is the knowledge that once you take that risk you will have lost your dream forever.
But don’t be afraid, you are able to succeed, but even if THIS dream does fail, once you’ve become someone that dares to dream there will be others. Once you’ve made that change, once you’ve become a dreamer, there is no going back–and that is certainly a step on the road to success!
So, remember to Dare to Dream!
